More Information

Surface Preparation:
• Identify existing finish and if it scratches off easily, pressure washing with a cleaning solution may be all that is needed. For prior organic oil-bassed (i.e. Linseed oil) acrylic, or propylene glycol finishes, stripping, sanding or media blasting may be recommended for preparation. Make sure to remove any flaking, peeling, sheen, or water beading (mill glaze) so product can penetrate well.

Recommended Tools:
• Use a high-quality china bristle brush for application. If needed use a pole brush for an extended reach. Use a 6" or 9" plush roller for application and back rolling after spraying.

Application:
• Apply generously by hand, saturating the logs until they appear almost ready to run and are throughly coated. Back brush or back roll for an even penetration.
• Use a high-quality china bristle brush, a 3/4" to 1" plush roller cover, or a sprayer with back rolling.
• Use a plastic sheeting or tarp to protect surrounding areas.
• Apply to vetical surfaces first, followed by horizontal surfaces. Do not apply a second coat.

Drying:
• Log*1 Coat provides ample working time. Dripping is minimal unless over applied. If running does occur just bankroll again. Use plastic sheeting to protect surfaces.

Finish: The finish is initally dark and lightens within a few days. Full cure takes up to 30 days. Rain typically won't affect the finish after a few hours. Heavy rain spotting can be addressed by back-rolling with a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and stain sealer after drying. Minor spots usually disappear during curing.

Cleaning:
• Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with mineral spirits. Wash hands and skin with soap and water.

• Storage:
• Store LOG*1 Coat in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If stored properly, the product can last for several years. Stir well before each use.

Caulking Tips:
• Choose a color that closley matches the anticipated wood ton after staining. Make sure to apply caulk before staining for best results. If done after staining make sure the stain has dried completley. Most caulks are acylic and can bleed through semi-transparent stains. Avoid caulking small checks.

Product Questions

Product Questions

  • How long will it take to for the deeper tone to lighten up?

All decks, log and timber homes will lighten up over the weeks to come. Thernamount of sun, degree of temperature, and porosity of the wood will be the rndetermining factors in how quickly the color will begin to match your expectations. rnUneven curing patterns will disappear over the next 30-60 days. Please be patient rnand let the product take its course.

  • Why does the wood look darker than the picture I saw on the Sundance website?

This is expected and normal. Depending on the age and porosity of the wood, it rnmay have different degrees of sealant retention. The older the wood, the more rnsealant it will retain, and the deeper the tone to start.

  • What if it rains after my treatment?

Once the sealant is applied to dry clean wood it will immediately penetrate and rnrepel water. Rain might only present a problem if it occurs heavily within a fewrnhours of applying the sealant. If it does rain, do not walk on it until it completely rndries out.

  • How long will it take for the Sundance Wood Stain Sealer to dry and fully cure out?

The sealant typically requires 24-48 hours to dry, depending on the weather. If a rndeck you can usually walk on it then. The full curing out process will follow in the rnweeks to come.
