• Same performance: It’s the same color, durability, and application you’ve come to expect from Transformation Log & Timber Stain.

Where to Use Transformation Flex Tint
• Specifically formulated for use with Transformation Log Stain.

Where Not to Use Transformation Flex Tint
• Transformation Flex Tint does not mix in with other stain brands or products.

Transformation Log & Timber Features & Benefits
• High-performance oil-based finish
• Excellent for restoration work and new construction
• Beautiful translucent finish
• Ultra water repellent with extreme UV protection
• Easy to apply
• Restoration tested for compatibility over many stains
• Freeze-thaw stable

How To Use Transformation Log & Timber Stain
• Bare Wood/New Construction: Apply 2 coats of Transformation for the normal build. Be sure to allow the coat to dry at least 8 hours before applying the next coat.
Because lighter colored stains have less pigmentation, they don't hold up as well to UV degradation; therefore, 3 coats of Natural color are required.
• Maintenance Coat: Transformation will need a maintenance coat after several years. Do not allow Transformation to weather down to bare wood. Instead, Transformation is ready for a maintenance coat once it has lost its sheen and starts looking dull. At this point, first clean the logs to remove dirt and mold. Once the surface is clean, in most cases one coat of Transformation will be sufficient.

Transformation Log & Timber Coverage Rate
• 1st Coat: 150-300 sq. ft./gal.
• 2nd coat: 250-450 sq. ft./gal.
• As with all stains, coverage will vary depending upon roughness of the wood.

Tint Cartridge Size
• Use one full 28 oz. cartridge for every 5-gallon pail of Transformation Log & Timber Stain neutral base.
• Do not dilute the tint pack. Using less tint than recommended will diminish overall stain durability and performance.

Transformation Flex Tint Mixing Instructions
1) Remove peel & stick color label from cartridge. Apply to 5 gal. pail next to the lot #/UPC label near the pail lid.
2) Remove lid from 5 gal. pail of Transformation Log & Timber Stain neutral base.
3) Cut cartridge nub with Exacto knife or cigar cutter.
4) Insert cartridge into standard caulking gun. Engage plunger until secure in the gun.
5) Empty the entire contents of the cartridge into a 5 gal. pail of Transformation Log & Timber Stain neutral base. When empty, a small amount of the tint will remain at the very top of the cartridge. The cartridge is filled with a little extra so final color is not affected.
6) Mix thoroughly using a drill-driven paint mixer for 5 to 7 minutes. Tint should be evenly distributed and no solids left in the bottom of the pail. There should be no streaks or milkiness.
7) Mix stain periodically throughout application. Turn the drill on for a few seconds every 20-30 minutes to ensure tint remains evenly distributed and doesn’t settle to the bottom.

Sashco Transformation Log & Timber Surface Preparation
• Proper substrate preparation and application mean greater longevity, better color, and better long-term performance.
• If you are changing from one stain product to another, contact us first. Transformation Log & Timber will adhere to almost any surface that is properly prepped. Be aware that any product already on the wood that contains waxes, non-drying oils, silicones, or anything that forms thick layers on the wood, can interfere with the adhesion and penetration of Transformation Log & Timber, or any stain, and must first be removed.
• Cleanliness is a virtue: Starting with an absolutely clean surface means better penetration and adhesion of the stain, which means better longevity and a more beautiful finish.
• Media blast, vigorously power wash or sand wood surfaces using an Osborn brush or 60—80 grit sand paper to remove failing stains and loose, unsound wood fibers, along with surface contaminants.
• If mildew is present, apply Sashco’s CPR in the brightener strength according to the directions, or apply fresh bleach in a 4 parts water to 1 part bleach solution. Allow it to sit no more than 20 minutes, and then thoroughly rinse.
• Fuzz be gone: For the best appearance, remove felting (wood fuzz) with Osborn brushes, Sashco’s Buffy Pad system or 60—80 grits and paper once the wood is dry. Remove all sawdust with a broom, compressed air or a leaf blower.
• Do Not delay: UV rays from the sun can damage cleaned wood surfaces in as little as 1 week; therefore, stain should be applied no more than 2 weeks after wood prep is completed.
• Plan to stain when the forecast is predicting clear, rain-free weather that will extend 1-2 days after the stain has been applied. If rain can’t be avoided, be sure to protect the stain from direct rainfall for 1-2 days after the stain is applied to prevent it from being washed off the surface.
• Preserve: Apply Sashco’s PeneTreat for protection against wood rot and insects. Allow wood to dry at least 2-4 days.

Sashco Transformation Log & Timber Application Instructions
1. Use a moisture meter to make sure wood is at or below 19% moisture content level before applying stain. Damp wood can prevent the stain from penetrating properly and can eventually lead to peeling.
2. Help keep surface mold and mildew at bay by adding more mildewcides to the stain.
3. Thoroughly mix the stain. The preferred method is to use a drill-driven, squirrel-cage type mixer. No matter what method is used to mix the stain, you can ensure the most consistent color by:
• Scraping all pigment off the bottom of the pail and thoroughly mixing it in.
• Interblending pails with different lot numbers.
• Stirring the stain every 10-15 minutes throughout application to keep the pigments evenly distributed through the stain.
4. Apply Transformation Log & Timber to wood surfaces that are no colder than 40°F (4°C) and no hotter than 90°F (32°C). Extreme temperatures will prevent proper penetration and drying of the stain. Plan your work so that surface temperatures fall within this range. Do not apply to surfaces in direct intense sunlight and work in sections to avoid lap marks.
5. Spray on one heavy coat of Transformation Log & Timber stain. If only a brush is used, be sure to drench-apply the stain. Vigorously brush the stain, pushing it into the wood and all cracks and checks, catching any drips. This promotes the best adhesion and penetration, and leaves an even, consistent coat of stain.
• Wait until the first coat is dry (24 hrs.), then apply a light second coat of stain, spraying and back brushing as with the first coat.

Sashco Transformation Log & Timber Cleanup and Storage
• Clean up tools and equipment with mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners. Discard empty containers in the trash.
• Hands maybe cleaned with citrus-based hand cleaners, and then washed with soap and water.
• To avoid dislodging cartridge plunger, do not crush. Follow pail storage instructions for mixed stain. Do not dilute tint.
• Do not store in direct sunlight or hot conditions.
• Tightly reseal opened containers and store at temperatures between 50 ̊F and 90 ̊F (10 ̊C - 32 ̊C). If skinned over, remove the skin before thoroughly stirring the product.

Product Questions

  • Is the Transformation Dark Walnut color available in the Pre-Mix?

I'm sorry, Sashco is currently making the new Dark Walnut color for Transformation Log and Timber only in the Flex Tint packaging. They are not yet making it available as a Pre-Mix version.

  • Can you use a partial cartridge for a lighter color?

No this is not recommended. The color will be difficult to replicate and durablity will be ruined. It would be better to choose a lighter color with proper pigment load that way you get the color you're looking for.

  • How long do you have to mix Flex Tint?

Stir until completely mixed which is about 3-5 minutes. The pigments can settle after about 15 minutes so regular mixing is still a must.

  • Can Flex Tint be mixed with other company neutral based stains?

No. Flex Tint is specifically formulated for Sashco stains

  • Will the Flex Tint be identical to the Capture and Transformation Pre-Mixed?

In final appearance yes. The mixing method is different and additional items are added to flex tint to ensure the pigments stay suspended.
