Perma-Chink Deck Defense Stain is a state-of-the-art, high-performance natural oil/water emulsion stain designed to penetrate into the wood while creating a strong bond with the substrate that highlights the appearance of beautiful wood. Deck Defense can be applied to decks, railings, fences, and horizontal surfaces.

This comprehensive formula works in synergy with the wood’s natural elements to defend against UV-exposure, moisture, mold and mildew, peeling, fading and discoloring, and provides unprecedented wood protection benefits. Apply 1-2 coats of Deck Defense to develop the desired color richness and appearance. This product saves time considering the surface must not be completely dry to begin application. Just remove excess water that has pooled and begin application.

Deck Defense Deck Stain makes the restoration process easy. Once the initial coat of Deck Defense is applied to bare wood, a future maintenance coat applied to a surface previously coated with Deck Defense is easy - clean and recoat, no mechanical or chemical stripping required.

Features & Benefits:
• Excellent UV protection.
• Long lasting color retention.
• Breathable film allows decking to dry out.
• Water-based penetrating exterior wood stain.
• Easy application.
• Easy soap and water clean-up.
• Highlights wood texture.

Application Methods:
• Brush
• Airless Sprayer (511 or 513 tip.)

Coverage Rate:
• 175 - 250 square feet / gallon, depending on wood porosity.

Surface Preparation:
• To obtain the best results on your project, make sure the surface is clean and free from contaminates including dirt, dust, mold and mildew, old finishes, water repellents and wax.
• If wood is grayed from UV exposure, restore the natural color to the surface with Wood Renew.
• Do not apply Deck Defense to surfaces that have been brushed with a wire brush or rubbed with steel wool.
• Rinse cleaner thoroughly from the wood surface. pH strips are recommended to ensure complete neutralization.
• New pressure treated wood should be allowed to season for a minimum of four weeks to allow better penetration.
• For best performance and appearance on new wood, sand the wood surface with 60 grit sandpaper or sanding disks before application.
• Replace or repair all decayed wood prior to application. Any remaining old finishes should be completely removed.
• The use of bleach is not recommended. Chlorine bleach can significantly reduce longevity of the newly applied finish and may cause discoloration of the surface over time.

Application Instructions:
• Always test in an inconspicuous area. Allow test area to dry completely before evaluation of color and appearance.
• Thoroughly mix Deck Defense prior to and during application to keep pigments from settling. DO NOT USE POWER MIXING EQUIPMENT, use paint sticks or similar stirrers. Stir container every 15 minutes.
• Boxing different batch numbers will help to assure consistent color.
• Do not thin or mix with other products.
• To avoid lap marks and inconsistency, maintain a wet edge and take advantage of the natural breaks in the surface when stopping or pausing application.
• Deck Defense may be applied with brush or airless sprayer (511 or 513 tip).
• Apply in one soaking coat with an average rate of 225 square feet per gallon depending on wood porosity and age.
• Avoid pooling of stain. Back brush finish into all wood surfaces thus creating a consistent, uniform appearance.
• A second coat may be applied for a richer and deeper color. If desired, apply second coat while first coat is still wet.
• Avoid applying in direct sun.
• If surface temperature is above 95 degrees; mist surface with water to cool down prior to application. Remove any pooling water before application.

Dry Time:
• Deck Defense will dry to the touch in 30 minutes and tack-free in 4 hours.
• Allow 24 hours before replacing furniture or allowing heavy traffic.
Please Note: Drying times will vary depending on temperatures and relative humidity.

Clean Up:
• Brushes, sprayers and tools may be cleaned with warm soapy water.
• Landscaping and plants should be “wet down” prior to application, and rinsed to remove excessive overspray.
• Dried product may require removal with mineral spirits.

Storage and Shelf Life:
• Store containers of Deck Defense out of direct sunlight and always protect material from freezing.
• 1 Year Shelf Life.
