Window frames move away from the siding or doors shift against the brick. They move when the temperature changes, the wind blows, or the ground swells. Big Stretch Caulk by Sashco provides the adhesion and flexibility to handle the movement.

More Information

Before You Start:
• Check the weather. Pick a time where you’ll have good surface and air temperatures: 40°F (4°C) and rising to 120°F (49°C) and falling.
• Lower temperatures and higher humidity will slow cure time, so be sure to allow 1-3 days curing before exposure to direct rainfall. Use plastic sheeting with good airflow underneath to protect the product if rain is expected sooner.
• Natural shrinkage will give the joint a concave appearance; multiple applications may be needed to fill the joint flat.
• Big Stretch accepts latex paints/stains within 4 hours. (Wait at least 24 hours with low-end latex paints. Some low-end, flat latex paints may crack over Big Stretch, regardless of cure time.) If using an oil-based paint/stain, allow 1 week to cure. Larger beads may require more cure time before painting. Some paints/stains may interfere with adhesion regardless of dry time.

Application Information:
• If dirt or oils are present, wash with any household cleaner, rinse to remove and allow to thoroughly dry.
• Remove any old caulk, especially silicone. Use a silicone remover such as McKanica Silicone Caulk Remover.
•Joint design - Insert backer rod into joints deeper than 1/2” to provide for proper sealant depth and a stronger, longer lasting seal.
• Choose Bead Size – Cut the spout at a 45° angle to your desired bead size and puncture the inner seal.
• Gun Big Stretch into the joint and release the trigger at the end of each bead.
• For a smoother bead, use a damp foam or paint brush with a light, skimming touch.
• Clean up tools and hands with warm water and soap.
• Leftover Big Stretch can be stored if the nozzle is tightly wrapped with plastic wrap and a rubber band.

Storage and Clean-up:
• Clean up tools and hands with warm water and soap.
• Leftover Big Stretch can be stored if the nozzle is tightly wrapped with plastic wrap and a rubber band.

Product Questions

Product Questions

  • Does big stretch conduct electricity?

Big Stretch's manufacturer, Sashco, confirms that it does not conduct electricity.  They consider it to be an insulator.

  • Can this be applied over my Sikkens Cetol 1 & 23 finish?

Big Stretch is regularly used in conjunction with Proluxe Cetol 1 & 23 and there are no incompatibilities we have ever heard of between these two product lines. As long as you make sure the Proluxe is not wet from a new application, we would not expect you to have any problems here.
